Meet our June cover star, Chrisspy! She opened up to us about where she finds inspiration as a makeup artist, and advice she has for anyone hoping to start their own YouTube channel!

How have you changed over the last 5 years?
Over the last 5 years, I've grown up a lot. I've spent a lot of time working to improve myself as a person, friend, and artist. I've been fortunate enough that my work has taken me all over the world. I'm thankful for everything I have and I'm still hungry to learn and grow.

What is your ultimate career goal?
I'm passionate about telling stories in creative ways and giving girls confidence through art and self-expression. How that will transpire career wise, I'm not sure yet. I used to feel anxiety over not knowing exactly what I want to do, but now I see it as though I am full of potential, I'm undefined.

What is your favorite type of content to create?

I love Halloween videos! I go all out on youtube for Halloween! It's my chance to get really creative in terms of makeup, editing, producing- everything. It's fun to challenge myself artistically that way. I collect ideas for my videos all year long. I'll hear a cool song and add it to my 'Halloween File.' Or I'll see a color treatment or editing effect that I like and take notes. Halloween is my jam.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I find a lot of my inspiration on Instagram and Tumblr. I love looking at other makeup artists' work. I also get inspiration from tattoo artists. I'm always looking at the shading, the use of color, and the intricacies- it's inspiring.

How would you describe your personal style? Who is your style icon?

My personal style is pretty simple, I actually say all the time that I'm 'anti-fashion.' I don't really care about labels or expensive brands. I like wearing comfortable pieces that I feel good in. Dressing for your body type is super important, especially if you're a curvy girl like me.

What advice do you have for someone looking to start their own YouTube channel?
I would say start now! Many girls feel they need a full studio in order to start a channel. I started with a webcam and my laptop. It's more important to focus on being yourself and uploading regularly than to worry about perfection.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

One of the best pieces of advice I've ever received is to always treat people with respect. When I first moved to LA years ago, I was working on set as a makeup artist doing makeup for a female CEO who I really admired. I asked her what advice she would give to me, as a young woman just starting my career, and that's what she told me. It sounds simple, but it stuck with me.

We can’t get enough of your transformation videos! Any thoughts on what your next one will be?
I have lots of transformations I want to do. I think Woody from Toy Story would be cool, or any character from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I don't really plan them though, they kind of just happen haha. And I never practice, which I should! All of my transformation videos have been me kind of just winging it! Dory was the hardest. Yoda was my favorite.
